How long have you been teaching and for how long at Scout?
Hi, my name is Kara. I’ve been teaching for 8 years, and this will be my fourth year at Scout Studios.
What is your favourite thing about teaching Pilates?
My favourite thing about teaching is when someone finds me after class and says, "Oh, I just feel so tall, I feel so spacious." And I’m like, yes - that’s the whole point!
What’s your favourite class to teach?
Definitely my Stretch class on Fridays at 1:30pm - it’s such a vibe!
How would you describe your teaching style?
My teaching style is quite calm, but I’m really alignment-focused. I encourage you to be present - and you will always get a good workout where you feel whole body warm. You’ll leave feeling long, strong, and just amazing!
Do you have a favourite Pilates exercise?
My favourite exercise would have to be the Semi Circle on the reformer. It’s like a giant body roll - so why wouldn’t you love it?
What do you like to do when you’re not teaching?
When I’m not teaching, I’m usually in the kitchen cooking, baking, and entertaining for my loved ones. Or I’m in another studio - a dance studio - dancing and performing.
What’s your favourite local spot?
Good Times Vintage is an op shop on King Street, and I just can’t go in there without buying something. There’s always a good find!
What’s your best advice for someone just starting Pilates?
Trust the process. Pilates is a journey that goes on forever - you’re always learning and discovering more about your body. It’s not about what it looks like - it’s about what it feels like!
