SCOUT INSTRUCTOR SERIES - Meet Pampa!

PAMPA ESCALANTE

Age: 26

Star sign: Aries

How long have you been teaching Pilates? I have been teaching Pilates for 6 months full time now!

How did you first get into Pilates?  I started off as a client. I got into my first Pilates class when I was 14 and continued practicing on and off, I wasn't really connected with the discipline at that time and just doing it for the results. In 2019 I came to Australia and started practicing Pilates and yoga regularly. I soon became addicted. The burn, the focus, the stretch… I just can't get enough of it. I then left Australia but the memory of how I felt in my mind and my body during this time remained with me.  So much so that I returned to Sydney in 2022 with the idea of staying longer. Once again, the studio became my sacred space. I did a lot of classes and met so many amazing instructors that I was inspired to do the teacher training (best decision ever, thank you Pampa from the past).

What's your favourite Pilates pose?  There are too many! One of my favourites is short spine. I love the spinal articulation exercises and I live for feet in straps. I often use short spine as the final exercise in my class.

What's your favourite thing about teaching at Scout Pilates? For me it's the beautiful space and the people in it. All of the members, staff, instructors and clients are so kind, passionate and supportive. You can feel the love in the air. The space is so stunning that I even go there on my free days. That's how good it feels! And the cafe next door in Marrickville, omg I love you.

Enough Pilates chat, what in your life gives you the most energy? It's the little things! A nap with my cat Simon by my side, a good power walk outside listening to my favourite tunes, stretching and moving of course, hours of conversation with my life long friends, coffee and croissants…

Tell us your favorite place to eat in the inner west and what you order there? Honestly I haven't been anywhere yet (I need to fix this). In my defence I'm quite new in town and I live far from the studio. What I can tell you is that I heard great things about a Mexican restaurant in the area called “Maiz”, that's top on my go to list.

What advice would you give to your 15-year-old self? Just try to relax, approach everything with a positive attitude, trust yourself, be fearless and enjoy the ride! Everything will turn out your way. And please make better food and drinking choices!

Last great book that you read? I'm currently reading a book called “101 essays that will change the way you think” that a friend/client gifted me. It's about human behaviours, psychology, finding purpose and I'm so into it right now! Love how it leaves me reflecting on my choices and way of thinking and it gives me a better understanding of some of our conducts.

If you could travel ANYWHERE tomorrow, where would you go? I would go straight back home to Buenos Aires, Argentina! I love Sydney and my life here so much but the homesickness is real! Nothing feels like home and I miss everything, especially my Dad.

What goal are you hoping to achieve by the end of the year? I'm hoping to get more certifications in order to offer you better classes and continue expanding my personal practice as well. To continue making daily movement a priority. In my personal life, to travel more, I want to discover other parts of Australia.
