How long have you been teaching at SCOUT?
I’ve been teaching yoga for many years, embodying the practice for about 20 years now, if not more. I’ve been teaching yoga for about 7–8 years now and I’ve been at Scout since the opening of Redfern.
What can people expect from your classes?
In my classes, I think people can expect a journey that will take them beyond the physical body. I share philosophy, and include mantra and a bit of singing in Savasana - using sound as a vibration to really drop into a deeper state.
What is your favourite thing about teaching?
My favourite thing about teaching, for me, is as an act of service, and being able to hold space for anyone who comes through the door, landing on their mat, and taking time in their day to connect with themselves. For me, it’s such a privilege to hold space and to share the wisdom that I received myself from my teachers and pass it on. Being able to help people and assist people in their own journey of discovery on their own transformative path that yoga brings.
What do you like to do when you’re not teaching?
My favourite self-care routine is every morning I walk down to the beach and have a sunrise walk or swim, and really take time to connect with nature. I love the water - the ocean is my happy place. As well as this, being surrounded by community.
What piece of advice would you give to someone just starting Yoga?
My advice to someone who’s just starting yoga is to step on the mat with an open heart, come with an open mind, and to not be stuck or controlled by what the body can or can’t do. Really try to move with your breath at your pace, with your body, in your time. Don’t feel any pressure of any kind - hold space and honour yourself on your mat.
