SCOUT INSTRUCTOR SERIES - Meet Lucia!

LUCIA WARD

Pilates Instructor Lucia

Age: 31

Star sign: Leo

How long have you been teaching Pilates? I have been teaching Pilates for 1.5 years .

How did you first get into Pilates?  I first got into Pilates when I went to a class with my mum which turned out to be mat Pilates. I was in high school and hated sports/PE so she invited me to try Pilates with her and I loved it. When I moved to Australia in 2019 I began going to reformer Pilates classes 4-5 times a week as the obsession solidified!

What's your favourite Pilates pose?  This is such a hard question, I have so many favourites but I love hip rolls any clients who have been to my class might roll their eyes as they read this haha – I love spinal articulation! Saw is also another favourite I have stolen from mat and incorporated on the reformer recently as a stretch!

What's your favourite thing about teaching at Scout Pilates? There are SO many reasons I love teaching at Scout but the top reason is the community of clients and teachers. There is a lot of love and great energy in both studios. I get so much good energy from my clients in class so I aim to give the same in return.

Enough Pilates chat, what in your life gives you the most energy? Cooking brings me so much joy (my fiancé is very happy about this). I also love being out in nature and being around my people!

Tell us your favorite place to eat in the inner west and what you order there? I feel like I need to explore the Inner West more before I give solid recommendations, but I did eat at Vandal with the girls recently and I was so impressed. I also just discovered the Bearded Barista near the St Peter’s studio, which does a great lunch!

What advice would you give to your 15-year-old self? I would tell her not to compare herself to others, or to be mean to herself or her body - she will be proud of herself some day!

Last great book that you read? Breath by James Nestor – I am currently completing my Breathwork facilitator training and this book was really insightful!

If you could travel ANYWHERE tomorrow, where would you go? It would have to be home to Ireland to celebrate our engagement with our families and get some huge hugs!

What goal are you hoping to achieve by the end of the year? Professionally this year involved a lot of trainings and a huge career change leaving the fashion industry after 10 years; I have been in setup mode. Next year I am excited to hopefully have some new offerings for movement and supporting the mind-body connection. Personally, my goal for next year is to have more fun, to be present and make joy a priority!
